Alex Grant: Guestbook

I love your music. I discovered it when I created a Pandora radio station of contemplative piano music, which I use for relaxing or for writing my dissertation (on beauty). It helps to calm my soul and it helps me in my thinking about beauty. Both of these are desirable states. I have now created an Alex Grant only station. Its lovely. I read your bio, and was amazed by your journey. I have spent a lot of my own life attempting to discover what I really love and overcome my fears and insecurities. I'm sure you'd say you're not done, but it does seem like you've travelled a good distance toward your destination. And what you're doing is filling the world with goodness. I have an odd view for these days (though it is an ancient one), that goodness and beauty are intimately tied. So I believe that when you add beauty to the world, you also add good to the world. You are making the world a better place, and doing it in a way that is accessible to people. What a gift. What a vocation. Please keep it up.

So glad to see you are still in the game! Will have to see what CD's I need to order. Will be a great gift for my husband this year for Christmas. We first heard you when you were playing at Fiesta Mall in Tempe, Arizona. My husband fell instantly in love with your music and we purchased several of your CD's. TO this day - they remain some of our favorite music to listen too.

I saw Alex play at Arizona Mills in approximately 2000. We sat for a long time watching and listening. I bought a CD which he signed for me, and I have enjoyed it since. I would love to see him again live. Alex, are you coming back to the Phoenix area anytime soon to perform?

We came to Denver one weekend when our girls were young and Park Meadows Mall just opened. I offered to take the kids while Beth went shopping by herself. As she went through the mall you were playing in an atrium area. She sat in a comfortable chair and listened to you for an hour, amazed that a day shopping with the kids could turn out so well.
Thank You!

Hi Alex. I was one of your biggest fans when I lived in Tempe AZ. That was through April 2005. I was at "Charlies' Espresso" on Mill Ave. to listen to your amazing music whenever possible. Right now I am listening to your CD's and I am still enchanted inspired by whatever magic it is that flows through your fingers onto the keys. I have been writing poetry for several years and am now working on my first novel with the guidance of a local writer's group. Your music and your life are an inspiration for me to share my creativity with the world. Thank you, Alex.

The fingers lightly play the keys,
Music to soothe the savage beast.
My inner child it doth please,
My anger is quickly released.
Clowns and Hammers haunting my soul;
As I write my lines in the night.
Relieving stress of which I am full;
Replacing it with sheer delight.
Thoughtful music brings clarity,
As I pen once more in my tome.
Times like this not a rarity,
His music rolls throughout my home.
Such music is the greatest gift;
That a poet like me could hear.
Making the worlds tensions lift,
Bringing prosaic thought so clear.
So I fire up my stereo;
Again tonight Alex will play.
Soon releasing my thoughts to flow,
As I begin to write away.

I first heard you play in AZ at a mall. I purchased several cds at that time. They have kept me sane during many hours of insanity. I'm excited not only to find your site, but also to find you have more cds available. I'm going to purchase the ones I don't have! Thank you for sharing your talent.

I just recently discovered your music via Pandora. I whole-heartedly love your "Chasing Fireflies"...! That is absolutely my favorite piano piece right now.
I'm Japanese, so I'm not very familiar with American pianists. But I'm a big fan of a Japanese pianist called Joe Hisaishi, and your musical ambiance reminded me of him.
I was searching for your sheet music on the Internet, trying to see if you had published "Chasing Fireflies," but I sadly couldn't find it... But I stumbled across your myspace page (which I don't hold an account to...) and learned that you do have "Grand Ballroom", "Mother's Dream" and "Karen's Ocean" on PDF files? Are you still sharing those with the public? If so, please let me know. I would love to play your music at home for my Japanese piano-fans.
Thank you and I look forward to discovering more piano pieces by you.

In 1997, I was going to culinary school in Scottsdale, Arizona. I was a 23 year old Kansas girl who had never been more than 30 miles away from home by myself. Many of my evenings would be spent wandering the courtyard of the Ritz on 24th and Camelback and watching movies alone at the theatre at Thomas and Hayden Street. One evening, I walked past a man playing the piano in the bookstore. But he wasn't the average performer. He made me stop in my tracks. What I heard touched my soul. I bought the CD. It later accompanied many nights alone in my little apartment. It helped me soak in a hot bath, enjoy a glass of valpolicello, and spend some quality time with myself. I am 36 now, with a husband and two boys. When I find I have an evening alone, I still listen to that same CD. It's my heart soundtrack. It helps me unwind and is great background music when I want to sit and talk to the Lord. God Bless you, Alex Grant. Thank you for being part of my quiet time, when I really found out who I was.

Dear Alex,
I write after years of listening to your music. I first heard you perform at Borders Book in Phoenix a long time ago, and I still listen to your music. It lifts my soul when I am down, and brings back many wonderful memories of how wonderful the music was then, dancing though the bookstore. I listen to you when I paint. I wish that I could still walk into Borders on a weekend night like tonight to hear you play. About a year ago, I gave one of your cds to my mother (79) about a year ago- she told me that she listens to it over and over. You bring beauty into the world. Thank you.

Im a 19 year old and I have never found an artist as inspirational and uniquely brilliant as Alex Grant. I love piano solos and he has officially became my favorite. I would die just to see him play in my own house or even come to Oklahoma. Thank you so much for you wonderful study music and creativeness on the keys. You lift my spirits with your work.

Not sure how often you check these comments- but I discovered you when I was 8 years old. It was your first CD and I believe my sister picked it up at a local bookstore in Phoenix, Arizona. She gave it to me because at the time she was 12- and was into all of that pop nonsense. At that time my parents had just gotten a divorce and your CD- Evening's Last Night literally got me through a solid 2/3 year period every night when I'd fall asleep that CD was on repeat. As I've grown up I've moved many times and somehow I misplaced the CD. I've thought of your music often but couldn't quite remember your last name until tonight. It just popped into my head and suddenly I found you all over Google and am SO pleasantly surprised. The name Alex Grant will never escape me again as you represent such a crucial part of my life and your music touches such a deep part of my soul. I thank you SO much for your amazing talent that you're able to share with the world and I hope someday I'm able to see you perform live. Your music has a place in my heart that I will ALWAYS genuinely appreciate. Thank you.

Years ago I had a part-time job at Borders bookstore in Northglenn, CO. You helped me get through the long afternoons. We talked between sets. You were good company. I purchased two of your albums and for the last five years or so my wife and I wake up to your piano playing every morning in our alarm clock / CD player. You music is still fresh. Thank you.

Hi Alex,
I just reconnected with a couple of high school friends (Hazelwood 1972!)and they told me about you and your music. I immediately went to your website and took a listen. I will be ordering your CDs. I lived 8 years in NC along the coast. The thing I miss about that area is the ocean and beaches. Your music reminds me of some of the most peaceful and enjoyable times I had there. Thanks so much for following your dream. It has been a good one!

About 6 or 7 years ago, I was visiting my daughter in Denver (Westminster) and I heard you playing your piano at the local mall there. It was right around Christmas time. Your music drew me to you where I promptly bought your CD, "Evenings Last Light" It is by far, my favorite music CD when I need soothing. I play it at work for a good part of the day. I will be obtaining more music.

I remember coming to watch you every lunch hour at the Westminster mall. My favorite song is still The Dancing. I gave away all of your CD's to a lady who was looking for music to play in her candle shop. I went to my car and had her play your music over the shops sound system and she loved it!! So I let her have all your CD's. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to by another set. Hopefully I will be able to find Metaphore somewhere so I can buy it again when I have the money. We even discussed the possibility of me playing the drums for you. Anyway, I still love your music and I can't wait to be able to hear it again. Your music is and always has been good for my soul.

I'm glad to see you're still playing the piano. I remember the first day I heard your music...I was walking through the AZ Mills mall and heard this wonderful piano music. Never have I been so drawn to music. I bought both of your CDs that day, and later went to see you in concert in Chandler. When you moved to Colorado, I thought you were done playing. When I put your CD in today at work, I thought I'd try looking up your website to see if you were still around. To my surprise, you are! I'm glad to see you have a new CD that I don't own because I'll be purchasing it! Thank you for the incredibly soothing music. It puts me in another place (even when I'm sitting in a cubicle at work). Best wishes to you as you continue your career in Colorado.

I love listening to your creations for their own sake, but also use many of them in the compilations that I play as I work (I am a massage therapist). I would love it if you would perform in Arizona again soon. Meanwhile, your choice to develop and use your gifts over the years is inspiring. Loved your bio. Peace - jean

Alex,
I remember the first time we met; it was at Borders Books at Metrocenter, in Phoenix. I walked in that evening and heard beautiful music (solo piano)emanating from the coffee bar. As I approached you sat poised and effortlessly poured your heart into and out of your piano. I remember we spoke briefly after each song, I helped you load your equipment out after you finished for the evening and I realized at that moment, I had met a life long friend. You have touched my life profoundly Alex, I thank you for each moment and note that you have so generously shared with and played for me...
Your Friend,

I have been an avid fan of Alex Grant since the first time I heard him play about 10 years ago in a local bookstore and then again in the Arizona Mills Mall. I was able to see him play in a small gathering in scottsdale and loved it. I have all his cds and still listen to them often. I did purchase his latest. I have to say that I was disappointed. If the "new sound' is truly your passion Alex then by all means GO FOR IT. But....if it's just something you're trying to see if it might boost recognition of sorts and it ISN'T a true passion....my opinion is that it truly took away from the pure beauty of your piano work. It distracted from the essence of what I personally fell in love with in your music. I'm sorry. I miss the true piano work that you do so well. PLEASE be true to your art, your heart and your work. If the newest cd really does that than I wish you al the luck in the world. If it doesn't........rethink what you REALLY love about your music.
Forever a fan......through good times and the trying it out times.....

I am so delighted to find your music again! I bought a couple of your CD's at a Unity church in Phoenix, AZ and now lice in Oklahoma. I had given up hope of finding your music. I used it for some creative writing papers and it really helped me. Please keep writing music, you have a wonderful gift!
Many Blessings,

Alex,
I first saw and met you while I was on a business trip to Phoenix. I was hooked on your music right away when I saw you play at the mall there. I bought all your CD's that day and had you sign them. You are truly a blessed individual and I hope you attain all your hopes and dreams with your music. Keep up the great work!!
